Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has called for deliberate arson to be treated as murder under the Penal Code.
Sharing dramatic drone footage showing a person setting fire to a forested area, Rama emphasized the severity of intentional fires.
He wrote:
“Setting a fire deliberately is not just a crime; it is a betrayal of our land and the future of our children.”
Rama’s full statement reads:
“Igniting a fire intentionally is a betrayal against our land and the future of our children.”
The footage was captured by military drones today, showing a deliberate act of arson. The State Police are actively on the ground to bring to justice anyone who endangers our common heritage by playing with fire.
At a time when global warming and wildfires challenge Mediterranean countries, we must equate arson with murder in the Penal Code.
