Kushtrim Ajvazi of the Kosovo Producers’ Association has stated that hundreds of local companies are battling what they consider an unjust decision by the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO). According to Ajvazi, the ERO moved businesses to the free market on June 1, a move that the association believes was unlawful.

Ajvazi pointed out that after 75 days, many of the affected companies have taken legal action. He noted that some businesses have already won interim measures from the court and have been returned to the regulated market. He stressed that they are not against a free market in principle, but argued it must be implemented fairly and legally.

“We aren’t against the free market; we are in favor of the free market, but when there’s competition and when the law foresees it,” Ajvazi said. He added that the ERO “template-style” moved 1,300 companies to the free market, even though it was violating the law. There are currently hundreds of cases pending in court.
