Kosovo Police have rejected claims circulated by several Serbian media outlets that a fire in Serbian territory near the Bërnjak area was caused from the territory of Kosovo.
In a statement issued Sunday, Kosovo Police described the reports as false and said they constituted disinformation aimed at portraying Kosovo as responsible for negative incidents in the border area.
“Such disinformation and false reports from Serbia targeting Kosovo have also appeared in the past and are used for specific purposes, with the aim of presenting the Republic of Kosovo to the international community as responsible for every negative occurrence, particularly in the border area with Kosovo,” the police said.
Kosovo Police also rejected claims that a specific weapon had been used from Kosovo to launch incendiary devices into Serbian territory.
“No such weapon as described in the media has been used by the authorities of the Republic of Kosovo, nor have Kosovo Police units reported observing anything of this kind being thrown from the territory of the Republic of Kosovo into the territory of Serbia,” the statement said.
According to Kosovo Police, Border Police units continuously patrol and monitor developments along the border area. In certain cases, the patrols are conducted in cooperation with KFOR units.
The police said Kosovo institutions would investigate any incident for which there is evidence that it was caused by human activity, regardless of where it occurred.
Kosovo Police also urged citizens and media outlets to rely exclusively on official information and avoid spreading unverified claims, particularly when such reports could affect perceptions of security or cause unnecessary public concern.
The dispute comes amid heightened sensitivity over incidents and competing narratives in the Kosovo-Serbia border area, where claims about cross-border activity can quickly become politically charged.
