Belgrade, September 10, 2025 – The Serbian Football Federation (FSS) could face serious consequences following Tuesday night’s 5-0 defeat against England at the Rajko Mitic Stadium in Belgrade.

Despite prior warnings and fines, Serbian fans caused multiple incidents, prompting scrutiny from FIFA and UEFA.

Key incidents included:

  • Fans chanting anti-Kosovo slogans before kickoff
  • A banner depicting Kosovo’s map covered in Serbian flag colors, deemed a political provocation
  • Use of a laser directed at England defender Ezri Konsa, briefly disrupting the match
  • Fans chanting anti-government slogans, requiring intervention by special police units
  • Confusion near the match’s end due to a whistle from the stands, causing a temporary halt

FIFA and UEFA have not yet issued an official statement, but sources indicate Serbia may face:

  • Partial or full stadium closures for upcoming matches, including the October 11 game against Albania
  • Increased monitoring at all future international fixtures

Former referee Keith Hackett told Football Insider:

“The use of lasers is dangerous and unacceptable. FIFA and UEFA will classify this as a serious violation.”

On the sporting side, England dominated, with goals from Kane, Madueke, Konsa, Guehi, and Rashford, while Serbia ended with 10 players after Nikola Milenkovic received a red card. England now leads Group K by 7 points.

This incident marks one of the most serious disciplinary and political breaches in recent regional football history, with Serbia having paid over £600,000 in fan-related fines over the past five years.
