Former Kosovo MP Besnik Tahiri stated that the United States represents the past, present, and secure future of Kosovo, following the U.S. Embassy’s announcement of an indefinite suspension of strategic dialogue.
Tahiri highlighted that Kosovo–US relations are rooted in sacrifice, history, mutual trust, and blood ties, emphasizing that this partnership goes beyond standard bilateral relations or strategic agreements.
“In 1999, America stopped the bloodshed, ended ethnic cleansing, and brought freedom. This truth is etched into our state identity,” Tahiri said.
He warned against attempts to reduce this relationship to short-term political contexts, stating that Kosovo’s independence, democracy, and multi-ethnic character benefit most from a strong bond with the US.
Tahiri’s Reflections on Kosovo’s Path
Tahiri urged reflection among political leaders, particularly Lëvizja Vetëvendosje (VV), on the state of Kosovo and its trajectory:
- VV must ask themselves where they have brought the country and where it is heading as a nation.
- Others who see things differently should boldly remind citizens that Kosovo’s independence and multi-ethnic democracy are permanent projects benefiting the Albanian nation.
“Anyone who weakens Kosovo’s ties with America commits a grave betrayal, as this relationship has also been blessed by God,” he added.
Concluding his statement, Tahiri wrote:
“In short, the United States is the past, present, and bright, secure future of Kosovo.”
