Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski stated that last week’s incursion of Russian drones into Polish airspace was an attempt to test NATO’s response without provoking a full-scale conflict.
“Interestingly, all the drones were empty, which makes me think Russia tried to test us without starting a war,” Sikorski told The Guardian in Kyiv.
He confirmed that if the drones had caused casualties, Poland’s response would have been “much harsher.” Sikorski also dismissed the notion that the incident was a technical error, as suggested by Donald Trump:
“You might believe one or two went off course, but 19 errors in one night, over seven hours, forgive me, I don’t buy it.”
Additionally, he confirmed that Polish counter-drone teams will be trained by Ukrainian experts at a NATO training center.
Despite his mild criticism of Trump, Sikorski expressed hope that Trump would “receive the Nobel Peace Prize” if he achieves a fair resolution for Ukraine.
