Warsaw scrambled Polish and allied aircraft in the early hours of the morning to ensure the security of Poland’s airspace, as Russia launched air strikes targeting western Ukraine, a region near the border, according to a statement from the armed forces of the NATO member state.
“Polish and allied aircraft are operating in our airspace, while ground-based air defense systems and radar detection systems have been set to the highest alert level,” said the Polish General Staff Operations Command via X.
Around 06:40, an alert was issued for potential Russian drone and missile attacks across almost all of Ukraine.
