US President Donald Trump has demanded an immediate investigation by the United Nations after claiming a “triple sabotage” targeted him during his speech at the UN General Assembly on September 23.
According to a statement from UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, the UN Secretary-General informed the US Permanent Mission that a detailed investigation has already been ordered. The UN also expressed its willingness to cooperate transparently with US authorities to determine the cause of the reported incidents.
Trump cited three issues during his speech as evidence of sabotage:
- Malfunctioning escalators, which forced him and his entourage to walk up manually.
- Teleprompter failure, preventing him from reading his speech without looking down at notes.
- Poor sound system, which his wife Melania reportedly said made his speech inaudible.
On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote:
“This was no accident, it was a triple sabotage at the UN. They should be ashamed. I am sending a copy of this letter to the UN Secretary-General and demand an urgent investigation.”
