Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has stated that for a peaceful and secure coexistence in the Middle East, it is necessary for some Arab countries to recognize the State of Palestine.

In an interview with ABC News, Sanchez reiterated his call for the immediate release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas and for Israeli authorities to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Asked whether he sees an end to the ongoing massacres in Gaza following a recent high-level UN meeting, Sanchez responded cautiously: “Not yet.”

He emphasized that recognition of Palestine by a majority of countries is a crucial step toward resolving the conflict and achieving a two-state solution.

Sanchez rejected claims by Israeli authorities that recognizing Palestine would be a “reward for Hamas,” stressing that it instead strengthens moderates within Palestinian society. He also highlighted President Mahmoud Abbas’s calls for Israel to halt military actions and engage in a political process to ensure peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians.
