Students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (ETF) in Belgrade, currently blocking the university, have responded to Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s remarks about foreign funding of protests.

In an interview with German media, Vučić claimed that foreign organizations finance student protests, arguing that demonstrators could not otherwise afford to sustain themselves.

Vučić’s Statement

Vučić said he holds evidence that German foundations fund anti-government protests, but chose not to publish it, claiming he does not want to strain relations between Serbia and Germany.

“I never said everything was organized from abroad. But it is well financed from abroad, because those people don’t have enough money to pay for it themselves. For example, the students who blocked universities still have to eat three times a day. That is mostly paid for by foreign sources,” Vučić stated, according to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung as reported by Deutsche Welle.

Students’ Reaction

The students quickly responded on social media, writing:

“Without foreign support, we’d eat only once a day. Thank you. Danke. Grazie. Merci. Спасибо. Gracias.”

The ironic post has since gone viral, symbolizing student defiance amid ongoing protests against Vučić’s government.
