The final regular session of the current Prishtina Municipal Assembly failed to take place today due to the absence of representatives from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK).
The opposition criticized the absence as a sign of political irresponsibility and avoidance of accountability.
Gëzim Sveçla, a member of Vetëvendosje, described the situation as unacceptable:
“It is regrettable that the legislature is obstructing the final session. Numerous violations were noted in the Auditor’s report, and today we should have named streets after national heroes. This is not the first time the ruling parties have been absent. Their absence is especially frequent when property exchanges or subsidies are on the agenda.”
Meanwhile, Leutrim Retkoceri of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) accused Prishtina Mayor Përparim Rama of deliberately avoiding transparency:
“The final session of this mandate was expected to allow debate and accountability. Mayor Rama and the executive did not attend today, showing contempt. We still have no answers regarding €12 million for the city architect and the auditor’s findings—where the money went remains unknown. We also have no 2026 budget; instead, we witness avoidance from Përparim Rama.”
The Municipal Assembly had planned to address several important items, including:
- Utilization of healthcare and urban transport services for municipal employees
- Naming of streets and public spaces
- Review of the debt repayment plan for the company “Pastrimi”
- Reports on cooperation with villages and urban neighborhoods
- Decisions on the recruitment of directors and deputy directors for educational institutions
- Transfer of 45 educational positions
The cancellation of the session leaves several key administrative and financial decisions pending as the mandate of the current assembly comes to an end.
