Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that a ceasefire in Gaza could be declared Wednesday evening, if both Israel and Hamas reach a consensus during ongoing negotiations in Egypt.
“If agreement is reached today, the ceasefire will be mediated,” Fidan told reporters, as reported by The Times of Israel.
Fidan noted that both sides have shown strong willingness to move forward on the release of prisoners and hostages, alongside discussions with Syrian counterpart Asaad al-Shibani.
Negotiations in Egypt are reportedly focused on four priorities: the release of Israeli hostages, the release of Palestinian prisoners, the withdrawal lines of the Israeli military, and other security arrangements. Fidan stated that significant progress has already been made.
Meanwhile, an Israeli official cautioned that positive statements from U.S. and Egyptian mediators may be aimed at advancing talks rather than reflecting the actual situation on the ground. The official emphasized that the release of high-profile Palestinian prisoners, including Marwan Barghouti, remains a central focus of the ongoing shuttle diplomacy.
