After vehicles belonging to the Kosovo Security Force (FSK) mistakenly drove into the north of Mitrovica, the FSK has issued an official clarification.

According to Vëllazërim Qerimi, Chief of Staff at the FSK’s Information Office, the incident occurred during the movement of an FSK convoy traveling from Istog to the FSK barracks in Mitrovica, when the personnel took a wrong turn.

“The Kosovo Security Force clarifies that today, on 16.10.2025, at 10:30 a.m., during the movement of the FSK convoy from Istog to the FSK barracks in Mitrovica, the members mistakenly took the wrong direction,” Qerimi stated.

Veton Elshani, Deputy Director of the Kosovo Police for the North, confirmed that the vehicles were indeed FSK’s. He explained that the convoy had stopped for about five minutes at a fuel station, where police officers approached them and inquired about the situation.

According to Elshani, the FSK members admitted they had made a mistake, thinking they were still in South Mitrovica. He also emphasized that the FSK personnel were unarmed.

When asked by KoSSev how such a navigational mistake could occur, Elshani replied that it was a “good question” — but one for the FSK to answer.

It’s worth noting that the deployment of FSK units in northern Kosovo requires prior consent from KFOR, the NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo. This is based on a 2013 commitment made by the Government of Kosovo in a letter sent by then–Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi to NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen — a commitment that remains in effect today, despite the evolution of the FSK’s mandate.
