As citizens across Kosovo head to the polls for the second round of local elections (runoff) being held in 18 municipalities, the Head of EULEX, Giovanni Barbano, has confirmed that the mission is actively monitoring the security situation on the ground.
Barbano stated that EULEX patrols are operating in close coordination with the Kosovo Police and KFOR, ensuring that the voting process takes place peacefully and safely.
“As Kosovo holds the second round of mayoral elections, EULEX’s Formed Police Unit and Reserve Formed Police Unit mobile patrols are on the ground, monitoring the security situation in cooperation with the Kosovo Police and KFOR,” Barbano said.
“Our goal is to ensure that every citizen entitled to vote can exercise that right freely and peacefully.”
The presence of EULEX and KFOR during election days is seen as a stabilizing factor, particularly in municipalities where tensions have occasionally risen in past electoral cycles.
