Donald Trump has threatened the BBC with a $1 billion lawsuit, giving the British broadcaster a deadline of Friday to meet his demands. The lawsuit is based on allegations of misrepresentation of the former president’s speech in a BBC documentary, according to Trump’s lawyers in a letter obtained by NBC News.
In the letter addressed to the BBC, the legal team demanded that the contested material be corrected and gave the broadcaster until November 14 at 5:00 PM EST to comply. If the demands are not met, the BBC could face a legal battle, according to Sky News.
“President Trump will have no choice but to exercise his legal rights, including filing a claim for damages of at least $1 billion. The BBC has been notified,” the document from Trump’s legal team states.
The BBC responded briefly: “We will review the letter and respond in due course,” a spokesperson told NBC News.
The White House has referred requests for comment to Trump’s legal team.
