At least five people were shot Friday evening in the Loop area of Chicago, according to city officials.
The incident occurred on the 100 block of North State Street shortly before 10:00 PM, when two people were reportedly shot. The shootings took place during a busy evening, as the official Christmas tree lighting ceremony was taking place downtown.
Chicago police maintained a heavy presence in the area following the incident and have launched an investigation to clarify the events. Sources told ABC7 that at least two people were shot, while the potential perpetrators remain unknown.
