The Special Prosecution of Kosovo has filed an indictment against A.Z. and B.D. for war crimes committed against the civilian population in Rahovec and Suharekë during 1998–1999.

According to the indictment, A.Z., serving as an inspector at the Prizren Police Station, and B.D., serving as a police officer at the same station, “during 1998–1999, individually and in collaboration with other members of the Serbian police forces, carried out a campaign of arrests targeting the civilian population in the Rahovec and Suharekë municipalities.”

The indictment states, “Among those arrested were R.J., M.K., E.G., S.E., V.V., Q.K., U.K., H.G., S.G., H.Sh., and A.Z., who, during the questioning process, were allegedly beaten with blunt objects and subjected to other inhumane treatment methods. As a result, R.J. died, while the others suffered serious bodily injuries.”

The Special Prosecution has requested the court to hold the trial in absentia, as the defendants A.Z. and B.D. are reportedly unreachable by justice authorities.
