A large fire and series of explosions erupted today at a fuel refinery in Novoshakhtinsk, Rostov region, Russia, according to local residents.

Governor Yuri Slyusar confirmed that the cause of the explosions was an airstrike, as reported by Ukrainska Pravda. Early reports indicate that there are no casualties, though information is still being verified. Emergency services are on site working to extinguish the blaze.

Social media posts show thick columns of smoke rising from the refinery, highlighting the scale of the incident.

The Novoshakhtinsk Oil Refinery (JSC NZNP) is a major oil processing enterprise in southern Russia, specializing in refining crude oil and producing derivatives such as fuel oil, diesel, gasoline, and ship fuel. It is one of the largest suppliers of petroleum products in the Rostov region.

This is not the first time the facility has been targeted; the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported a strike on the Novoshakhtinsk refinery during the night of August 20–21, 2025.
