Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he has held talks with Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump, as well as Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, focusing on possible pathways to end the war with Russia.
“It was a truly good conversation. We discussed many details. Several new ideas have emerged on how to approach real peace, including the format, meetings, and timelines,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram, according to KosovaPress.
Earlier this week, Zelensky presented a draft peace plan consisting of 20 points, describing it as the main framework for ending the war. The draft is a softened version of an earlier 28-point plan previously discussed by the United States with Russia.
That earlier version was widely seen as favorable to Moscow, as it reportedly required Kyiv to concede territory and limit the size of its armed forces.
According to Zelensky, key territorial issues remain unresolved in the new 20-point draft, adding that a direct meeting with President Trump would be necessary to address the most sensitive matters.
Zelensky also said that Ukraine’s chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov, plans to hold another round of talks with U.S. negotiators later today.
“We are working 24/7 to end Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine and to ensure that all documents and steps are realistic, effective, and credible,” Zelensky emphasized.
