Osmani and the chairman of the OSCE discuss Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Europe and Trade of Malta, at the same time the current chairman of the OSCE, Ian Borg, started Thursday morning (11.04.2024) with official meetings in Kosovo, focusing on the relations between the two countries, the support of OSCE to Kosovo, Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe, as well as the latest political developments in the region.

After the meeting with his counterpart in Kosovo, Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz, Borg also met the president, Vjosa Osmani.

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, received the current chairman of the OSCE, Ian Borg, on Thursday.

In the communique issued by the Presidency, it is stated that during the meeting, the cooperation of Kosovo’s institutions with the OSCE was discussed, including the support of the OSCE in the past and the current cooperation of this organization with the local institutions.

President Osmani is said to have been informed about the priorities of Minister Borg and Malta as this year’s chairman of the OSCE.

“During the discussion with Minister Borg, President Osmani said that Kosovo continues to be at the forefront of progress in the region and beyond in terms of strengthening the rule of law and democracy as well as the promotion of human rights,” the communiqué states.

Osmani stressed that Kosovo’s membership in the Euro-Atlantic institutions would be a triumph for democracy and human rights not only in Kosovo, but throughout Europe.

She expressed her gratitude and reiterated the importance of Malta’s continued support in this regard, as in any other process of membership in international organizations.

According to the announcement of the Office of the President, Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe was also discussed at the meeting.

“The meeting also discussed bilateral relations between Kosovo and Malta, Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe, as well as the latest political developments in the region. In the discussion with Minister Borg, the president said that Kosovo continues to be at the forefront of progress in the region and beyond in terms of strengthening the rule of law and democracy as well as the promotion of human rights. In this spirit, President Osmani emphasized that Kosovo’s membership in the Euro-Atlantic institutions would be a triumph for democracy and human rights not only in Kosovo, but throughout Europe”, announced the Presidency of Kosovo.

During the day, Borg will also meet the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti.
