The general who commanded the Presidential Honor Guard of Venezuela, Javier Marcano Tábata, has been removed from his post just days after Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro was captured by U.S. forces in a raid on Caracas and taken to New York to face trial on narcoterrorism charges, foreign media reports confirm.

The Presidential Honor Guard is the military unit responsible for the personal protection of the head of state, including the president’s bodyguard detail.

The order to replace General Marcano Tábata was issued by Delcy Rodríguez, who has assumed the role of interim president of Venezuela after the Supreme Court authorized her accession following Maduro’s detention.

Rodríguez, who was sworn in before the National Assembly dominated by government loyalists, has already begun reshaping the country’s security leadership. Her supporters see the change as part of efforts to consolidate control amid political uncertainty following Maduro’s removal.

According to reports, Marcano Tábata’s dismissal is among the first changes in high-level security appointments under Rodríguez’s interim government, reflecting shifting priorities as Venezuela navigates its current crisis.
