The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) is holding its Working Assembly today, where delegates are expected to decide whether the party will elect a new leader or grant another mandate to current chairman Lumir Abdixhiku.

The Assembly is scheduled to begin at 12:00, following the party’s disappointing performance in the December 28 parliamentary elections, which prompted internal debate over leadership responsibility and the party’s future direction.

Earlier this week, Abdixhiku announced his readiness to resign from the position of party leader during a press conference held after consultations with LDK vice-chairs. He stated that if the Assembly does not accept his resignation, he would be obliged to remain in office, effectively placing the decision in the hands of party delegates.

Meanwhile, LDK Vice-Chairman Avdullah Hoti has officially declared his candidacy for the party leadership. In a public statement shared on Facebook, Hoti confirmed that following Abdixhiku’s resignation, he would seek the confidence of delegates to lead the party.

Hoti pledged to take responsibility for the political and organizational revival of LDK, promising a transparent, inclusive, and statute-based leadership process.

“No one will be left on the margins,” Hoti stated. “We will build an open, fair, and competitive LDK, where advancement is based on merit, integrity, and dedication.”

He emphasized the importance of greater inclusion of professionals, women, and youth, as well as the need to combine new energy with political experience in order to reposition LDK as a leading governing alternative in Kosovo.

Hoti concluded by stating that LDK’s potential is far greater than its current standing, and that the time has come to activate and channel that potential in the service of citizens and the state.
