FAZ journalist Michael Martens stated that he has never been sued, despite reporting on “Russian oligarchs, Serbian war criminals, Montenegrin cigarette smugglers, Kurdish rebels, Afghan war commanders,” and more. His comments came in response to the advisor of Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, who said that the President is consulting lawyers in Germany regarding the journalist’s statements.
The renowned German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung published an article detailing President Osmani’s efforts to secure a second term in office.
In the article, Martens highlighted how Osmani has tried to portray closeness to former President Trump and his family to achieve this goal.
Alongside this reporting, Osmani’s advisor, Rinor Nuhiu, stated that the head of state is consulting German lawyers regarding the statements of FAZ journalist Michael Martens.
Nuhiu wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that “the slander, defamation, baseless accusations, and false claims” made by Martens fall under civil and criminal liability according to German law.
“President Osmani categorically rejects his slanderous claims and the dangerous spread of disinformation,” he added.
Martens responded directly to Osmani’s advisor, writing:
“Live and learn. I have been a journalist for 30 years, living and working in difficult countries such as Russia, Afghanistan, and Turkey, writing about Russian oligarchs, Serbian war criminals, Montenegrin cigarette smugglers, Kurdish rebels, Afghan war commanders—never being sued. But now…” Martens wrote on the X platform.
