The identity of the Italian man arrested as part of the investigation into the “Sarajevo Safari” case has been revealed. He is Giuseppe Vegnaduzzo, 80 years old, a resident of Savorgnano near San Vito al Tagliamento. Italian media report that the small village was shaken by the news, with residents expressing shock and disgust toward him.
Police seized seven weapons from Vegnaduzzo’s home, including two pistols, one rifle, and four hunting guns. He is expected to give testimony in Milan on Monday. The investigation also involves a banker from Trieste, a 90-year-old man from Carnia, and another individual from Milan.
According to investigators, Vegnaduzzo is suspected of having used a sniper rifle from the hills surrounding Sarajevo between 1992 and 1995, targeting civilians. He is alleged to have told others that he traveled to Yugoslavia for “human hunting.”
The investigation, coordinated by prosecutor Alessandro Gobbis, is based primarily on witness testimonies and may be expanded to include other individuals suspected of paying to kill “for entertainment,” including women, the elderly, and children.
