“The Law on Languages is clear in this case,” said North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski regarding the bar (jurisprudence) exam, after law students requested that it also be available in the Albanian language. According to the prime minister, if there are requests for the exam to be taken in Albanian, this should be permitted.

“The Law on Languages is clear on this matter. If someone requests to take the exam in Albanian, it should be allowed,” Mickoski stated.

Law students submitted a petition to the Ministry of Justice, the Inspectorate for the Use of Languages, the Agency for the Implementation of Languages, the Assembly of North Macedonia, and the Government of North Macedonia, demanding that the bar exam be held in Albanian as well. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice argues that the Law on the Bar Exam does not provide for taking the exam in any language other than Macedonian.

Criticism and disputes over the issue have also emerged between Albanian parties in government and in opposition.
