The opposition protest in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, and later in front of Parliament, lasted approximately four hours.
The demonstration was marked by the throwing of Molotov cocktails and pyrotechnic devices by protesters toward law enforcement forces, while police responded with tear gas and water cannons.
Tensions remained high throughout the protest, leaving 16 police officers injured.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament Bledion Nallbati was also injured. He was transported to the Trauma Hospital and accompanied by his colleagues. According to the Democratic Party, he sustained head injuries.
Top Channel journalist Elda Menga reported from the scene, broadcasting footage of the arrest of protesters who threw hard objects at police officers.
In addition to clashes with law enforcement, protesters also confronted civilians in the streets, preventing some of them from leaving the area.
Interior Minister Koçiu stated that force should not be used as a means of protest, while the leader of the Democratic Party announced another protest scheduled for February 20.
