Albanian Parliament Speaker Niko Peleshi has condemned an attack on the Assembly building after protesters entered the premises and set part of the building on fire, calling for political parties to distance themselves from incitement and calls for violence.

In a statement published on Facebook, Peleshi said vandalism should not be associated with students or democratic protest, stressing that targeting public institutions was unacceptable.

“The targeting of the Parliament building and public institutions, and turning them into targets of blind anger, is unacceptable. Vandalism has nothing to do with students or democratic protest,” Peleshi wrote.

He added that violence and destruction served no legitimate cause, instead harming the public interest and society as a whole.

Peleshi also urged political groups to reject incitement and calls for violence, emphasizing that political agendas must not take precedence over the country’s interests.

“No one’s political agenda is more important than Albania,” he said.

The incident comes amid escalating student-led protests in Tirana, where demonstrators have targeted government institutions and public buildings.
