German Ambassador Jorn Rohde has called for the EU’s measures against Kosovo to be lifted, expressing frustration that this has not happened yet. In an interview on KTV’s “Interaktiv,” Rohde also criticized Serbia’s response following Kosovo’s recognition by Kenya.
The German Ambassador to Kosovo, Jorn Rohde, expressed frustration with the measures that the European Union continues to impose on Kosovo.
In an interview on KTV’s “Interaktiv” on Thursday, Ambassador Rohde stated that the punitive measures should be lifted.
“Regarding the measures, I can only repeat that Germany has continuously advocated for the immediate removal of the measures, as have most countries. I must admit that I am also a bit frustrated that this hasn’t happened yet, because it creates an imbalance and has concrete effects,” he said.
Kosovo was subjected to these punitive measures in June 2023, and they have not been lifted, even though the former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security, Josep Borrell, recommended their removal at the end of last year.
The German ambassador also criticized Serbia for its reaction to Kosovo’s recent recognition by Kenya.
“It is truly welcome that Kenya recognized Kosovo. I hope many other countries will do the same. And, of course, Serbia’s reaction is a serious violation of Article 4 of the Brussels Agreement, which prohibits blocking Kosovo’s membership in international organizations,” Rohde said.
In the interview, Ambassador Rohde also spoke about the military agreement reached between Kosovo, Croatia, and Albania, the EU’s Growth Plan, and the impact and approach the new German government might have towards Kosovo and the Western Balkans.
