Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has expressed positive expectations from Donald Trump’s second term, emphasizing that this could create a more favorable situation for Belgrade and allow Serbia to be heard more effectively.

Vučić does not expect major changes in U.S. policy toward Serbia. However, according to experts, the key issue will be the Washington Agreement, with the Trump administration expected to demand tangible results.

“Trump will continue the previous policy, strengthening the U.S. presence in the Balkans without large expenses and focusing on the economy, especially energy. He will not allow actions from troublemakers, as happened in Banjska, and will insist on respecting the Washington Agreement. There may be changes in negotiations, where the EU would only be a facilitator, while the U.S. would resolve key issues and support investments,” said Dušan Janjić, director of the Forum for Ethnic Relations.

On the other hand, some believe that Trump’s return could affect the dynamics of the dialogue, and due to regional challenges, there are expectations to maintain U.S. military and diplomatic presence to prevent destabilization.

“The fact that Trump has been re-elected could bring turbulent changes globally, but those might not directly reflect in our situation. There are some agreements, some of which have been partially implemented, while others have not. Among them is the Washington Agreement, which was negotiated and signed with Trump, and we can expect him to raise questions about what is currently happening with this agreement, how much progress has been made, and what will be done next,” said Nemanja Milošević from the political organization “Glas.”

Meanwhile, Trump has ties to Belgrade through Jared Kushner and Richard Grenell, who have encouraged private investments in Serbia. However, experts point out that potential business projects do not guarantee political support, especially concerning the issue of Kosovo.
