The President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, who is attending the funeral ceremony of Pope Francis in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican, has reflected on the important work the Holy Father did for Albania and Kosovo.
In a Facebook post, Begaj praised Pope Francis for choosing Albania as the first European country he visited on September 21, 2014. He also highlighted the Pope’s role in canonizing Mother Teresa on September 4, 2016, and his significant contributions to the Albanian people.
“Pope Francis, who chose Albania as the first European country to visit on September 21, 2014, canonized Mother Teresa on September 4, 2016, signed the decree for the beatification of 38 Albanian martyrs of communism on November 5 of that same year, later adding two more on November 16, 2024, and established the Diocese of Pristina and Prizren,” Begaj wrote.
