The U.S. Department of the Treasury issued a statement on September 4 announcing sanctions against the parent media group of Sputnik, Rossiya Segodnya, RIA Novosti, RT, Sputnik, and Ruptly.
The sanctions also targeted the editor-in-chief of Rossiya Segodnya, Margarita Simonyan, and several other senior executives.
Recently, the video-sharing platform TikTok deleted the accounts of Sputnik propagandists, including Sputnik International, Sputnik Serbia, Sputnik Afrique, Sputnik Africa, Sputnik Brasil, Sputnik Mundo, and Sputnik Indonesia.
It is reported that this move comes amid U.S. accusations that the propagandists were interfering in American elections.
Similarly, Meta had previously deleted RT’s accounts on Instagram and Facebook.
