More than 236,000 Canadians have signed a petition urging Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to strip Elon Musk of his Canadian citizenship, citing concerns over his alleged interference in national affairs. The petition, initiated by Qualia Reed from British Columbia and sponsored by New Democratic Party (NDP) MP Charlie Angus, claims that Musk’s actions are against Canada’s national interest.

Accusations Against Musk

The petition alleges that Musk, a key ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, has used his wealth and influence to interfere in Canadian elections. It further accuses him of being a member of a foreign government attempting to undermine Canadian sovereignty.

“We, the undersigned citizens of Canada, call on the Prime Minister to revoke Elon Musk’s dual citizenship and immediately confiscate his Canadian passport,” the petition states.

In response, Musk dismissed the petition, stating late Monday: “Canada is not a real country.”

Musk’s Canadian Ties

Born in South Africa, Musk obtained Canadian citizenship through his mother, who was born in Saskatchewan.

The online petition has gathered 236,123 signatures so far and is set to be presented in the House of Commons on June 20.

Trump’s Influence and Canadian Sovereignty

The controversy comes as Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed interest in absorbing Canada into the United States, suggesting it could become the 51st state. Trump has also threatened tariffs on Canadian goods, escalating trade tensions between the two nations.

With the petition gaining momentum, it remains to be seen how the Canadian government will respond to this unprecedented demand.
