PDK Deputy Leader Vlora Çitaku has reacted to the Special Court’s verdict against former KLA leaders, calling for a swift and institutional response from the state of Kosovo.
Çitaku rejected statements suggesting that the verdict cannot change Kosovo’s history, warning that its consequences could become evident in the coming years if institutions fail to act.
“Some are saying, ‘The verdict does not change Kosovo’s history.’ Let’s talk again in three or four years about how much it can change it if we do not act swiftly today,” she wrote.
According to Çitaku, the verdict portrayed the KLA as a “joint criminal enterprise,” while she argued that the judgment was built around a collective narrative.
“Once again, let us be absolutely clear: yesterday, the KLA was declared a joint criminal enterprise, in the name of the people. It is as simple—and as grave—as that,” Çitaku wrote.
She also criticized the way the defense case was handled during the proceedings, referring to the testimony of Wesley Clark, James Rubin, and other defense witnesses.
Çitaku described the verdict as “draconian” and said that Kosovo’s institutions must respond swiftly and through institutional channels.
“It is our duty, as a state and as institutions, to respond swiftly, seriously, and institutionally,” she wrote.
“Because history is not defended merely by saying that it cannot be changed. History is defended by taking action when someone attempts to rewrite it. There is no time for surrender,” Çitaku concluded.
