The parliaments of Albania and Kosovo have intensified their cooperation at all levels. Mimoza Kusari-Lila, the chairwoman of the parliamentary group of the Self-Determination Movement (LVV), stated that the parliamentary committees of both countries are working towards improving legislation for joint projects.
Albania and Kosovo are closely collaborating and are currently in the feasibility study phase for two major projects: the Durrës-Pristina railway and the Shkodër-Gjakova road.
According to Mimoza Kusari-Lila, these projects place both countries at the center of Europe’s movement. “Projects of this nature no longer need to be divided into two separate projects but can instead be combined into one. Additionally, as a parliamentary group, our cooperation with the committees of the Albanian Parliament has been continuous and has recently intensified,” said Mimoza Kusari-Lila.
Regarding cooperation in the field of infrastructure, the Durrës-Pristina railway project and the Shkodër-Gjakova road are seen as important priorities that position Kosovo and Albania on a different level in the region and beyond.
Furthermore, Mimoza Kusari-Lila emphasized, “I cannot think of anything more significant than the connection of these two emblematic municipalities on both sides of the border, and the railway through Pristina and Durrës, which also places Montenegro at the center of movement not only for the Balkans but for all of Europe. Therefore, this is our ongoing focus, and we are committed to implementing this project and starting the construction of the railway as soon as possible.”
The projects are currently in the feasibility study phase and have received the green light from both countries to proceed with faster progress in the upcoming stages.
