Serbian students should not concern themselves with the issue of Kosovo because Kosovo is an independent and sovereign state, Serbian human rights activist Aida Ćorović said on Thursday.

She stated that anyone who disagrees with this reality should visit Kosovo and see the situation firsthand.

“Students should not be dealing with the issue of Kosovo. Kosovo is an independent and sovereign state. If someone does not like hearing these words or is troubled by the fact that Kosovo is an independent state, then they should go to Kosovo. There, they will be met by the Kosovo Police, they cannot pay with Serbian dinars, and Serbia’s institutions no longer operate there. In all likelihood, the parallel University of Pristina will also be shut down. There is no longer a single Serbian institution functioning in Kosovo,” she said.

Ćorović added that she has Serbian friends from northern Kosovo who, according to her, travel to Novi Pazar and Raška to withdraw cash because Serbian ATMs no longer operate in Kosovo.

“The postal service no longer functions, and practically no Serbian institution remains operational. The problem is not my statements, but the fact that some people refuse to accept the truth. That is their problem,” she said.

Aida Ćorović drew public attention after throwing eggs at a mural of convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić in Belgrade. She was attacked by Mladić’s supporters and was later arrested by the police.

“I have been a human rights activist for many years, and my position has always been to stand with all the victims of Srebrenica,” Ćorović said following her arrest.
