Memli Krasniqi, the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), has suggested that proposing a different candidate for Speaker of Parliament could be the solution to the deadlock in the Kosovo Assembly.
“I hope something changes. Maybe they have changed the candidate, I hope so. Otherwise, they want to continue the blockade. The solution is, yes, another candidate,” Krasniqi told reporters before entering the Assembly.
Today marks the seventh attempt of the Kosovo Assembly to constitutionally form the ninth legislature. The deadlock has been caused by Vetëvendosje’s proposal of Albulena Haxhiu as Speaker, with her receiving only 57 votes in four rounds of voting so far.
Opposition parties from the past four years have called for a change in the candidate, while the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) has stated that it will not vote for anyone.
