MP and leader of the Montenegrin Democratic People’s Party (DNP) Milan Knežević will be interrogated by the police for recent statements glorifying the deceased convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić, the head of the Higher State Prosecutor’s Office (VDT) in Podgorica, Duško Milanović, announced today, reports RTCG.

On August 27, after the death of Mladić, Knežević announced on social networks: “Glory is eternal, and suffering is short. Every Serbian house has a Ratko.”

After Bosniak associations and non-governmental organizations filed criminal charges against him and Metropolitan Metodije for public announcements about Mladić, Knežević thanked them, saying that he could not have been in better company.

In addition, he repeated to them the message he announced after Mladić’s death.

He did not deviate from those views even a month later, saying at a session of the state parliament that for him Mladić was a hero.

Mladić died on August 27 in the custody unit of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts in Scheveningen.

Anyone who glorifies Ratko Mladić should be condemned for what they are doing: turning a convicted war criminal into a hero and insulting the victims of his crimes. There is nothing honorable or heroic about genocide, mass murder and the destruction of innocent lives. Those who continue to praise Mladić are not defending history they are deliberately glorifying the legacy of a man convicted of some of the gravest crimes of the Bosnian war.
