Former OSCE Secretary General in Vienna and Swiss diplomat, Thomas Greminger, has spoken about the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, which remains a key issue in the Balkans.

According to Ambassador Greminger, Donald Trump’s attention will not be focused on the Balkans. He has no expectations of immediate developments regarding the progress of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.

“In my perception, the Western Balkans is not high on the new administration’s priority list. This could even be seen as good news, as there won’t be pressure on them. I don’t expect the Western Balkans to be at the center of Trump’s foreign and security policy in the short and medium term. I don’t expect any push for conflicts in the region or for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue. So far, we haven’t heard much from the new administration in this regard. Also, it remains to be seen who within Trump’s team will handle the Western Balkans. Aside from the main figures around the President, a crucial role will also be played by second-level staff, including ambassadors. It will be essential who is sent to Tirana, as this will influence the U.S. approach to the region,” he said in an interview with Top Channel.
