The German Social Democrat MP, Frank Schwabe, has said that Kosovo should be a member of the Council of Europe as soon as possible and that the decision not to put Kosovo on the agenda in the days when the ministerial meeting was held is a wrong decision.
Si emphasized that the issue of Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe should not be mixed with the talks.
“I think that unfortunately there is a mix of international organizations and negotiations. We have the Council of Europe, we have our values, our measures, monitoring procedures in terms of the situation of democracy and the rights of minorities especially, so the Serbian community would have a voice good in the Council of Europe and we do not want to mix this with negotiations elsewhere. We are not part of the negotiations, so we do not need to listen to Serbia”, declared the German MP.
We should not mix our discussions and negotiations with other discussions and negotiations. I understand that there is a process between Serbia and Kosovo regarding the future, but this has nothing to do with our organization.
“Our organization must decide whether this country fulfills its obligations to be part of the Council of Europe. Compared to other member states, Kosovo is much better”, he emphasized.
Schwabe further said that he encourages the Kosovar government and opposition to do everything to align as much as possible with the Council of Europe. He stated that on the other hand they will try to push the Committee of Ministers to take a positive decision.
