Acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, has outlined recent changes within the country’s diplomatic service, confirming eight new appointments, three dismissals, and two reorganizations of consular missions.

Speaking to media, Haxhiu said she inherited a significant number of pending cases from former President Vjosa Osmani, adding that decisions are being advanced where procedures are properly followed.

Addressing the case of Vehbi Miftari, former head of Kosovo’s Special Mission to the Holy See, Haxhiu clarified that he was not dismissed but rather recalled from his diplomatic post. She noted that procedures for his release had begun in 2025.

Miftari previously confirmed receiving a decree ending his mandate in Vatican City, describing his tenure as a significant personal and professional honor. He also thanked Osmani for her trust during his appointment.

His departure follows earlier tensions, including concerns he raised about a lack of coordination between his mission and the Office of Prime Minister Albin Kurti during an official event in the Vatican.

Kosovo maintains an embassy in Rome and a special diplomatic mission to the Holy See, which operates under specific international diplomatic frameworks, including the 1969 UN Convention on Special Missions.

Haxhiu emphasized that diplomatic appointments and rotations are part of standard practice, reiterating that institutional procedures and legal frameworks guide such decisions.
