Kosovo Assembly Speaker Albulena Haxhiu welcomed the election of Justina Shiroka-Pula as Kosovo’s new president, describing it as a positive development that would contribute to institutional stability.

Speaking at an event marking German Unity Day, Haxhiu said Kosovo had “good news from home” following the election of its new head of state.

“Tonight, we come to this celebration with good news from our own home, from the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo. We elected the new president of the Republic of Kosovo, and now we will have institutional stability,” Haxhiu said.

She noted that Shiroka-Pula is Kosovo’s third woman president, or fourth if Haxhiu herself is counted as acting president during her previous tenure.

Haxhiu also highlighted the strong representation of women in Kosovo’s Assembly leadership, noting that four of the six members of the Assembly presidency are women, including herself and three deputy speakers, among them Emilija Rexhepi.

She said Germany serves as an example of the role women can play in leading a country, while also emphasizing the historical significance of German reunification on October 3, 1990.
