A senior Iranian adviser has stated that U.S. President Donald Trump’s extension of the ceasefire “means nothing” and is “certainly a tactic to buy time for a surprise attack.”
Mahdi Mohammadi, adviser to Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, made the comments.
In a post in Persian on the platform X, Mohammadi said that Trump’s continued “siege” is “the same as bombing” and should be met with a “military response.” He added: “The time has come for Iran to take the initiative.”
Meanwhile, the U.S. Navy has imposed a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz and its forces boarded an Iranian-flagged cargo ship on Sunday, after Iran had effectively closed this key maritime corridor for several weeks.
