The Commander of KFOR, Özkan Ulutaş, stated that the security situation in Kosovo has been generally calm since October 2025, though it remains fragile with potential for renewed tensions particularly in the north.
Speaking in Brussels during a briefing to ambassadors of NATO allies and partner countries, Ulutaş emphasized that NATO continues to support KFOR’s daily efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment for all communities, as well as freedom of movement.
He noted that there has been no resurgence of violence in northern Kosovo similar to the unrest seen in 2023.
“Since October 2025, we have observed that the situation is generally calm. However, it remains fragile, with the potential for new tensions, especially in the north,” Ulutaş said, stressing that maintaining stability for all communities remains the top priority.
He added that KFOR maintains a visible, agile, and flexible presence on the ground, ready to respond to any developments that could impact security or regional stability, and to de-escalate tensions if necessary.
Ulutaş also expressed gratitude to NATO allies and partners for their continued support, reaffirming KFOR’s commitment to fully and impartially its mandate.
At the same time, he highlighted that the mission maintains close contact with all relevant actors and supports the EU-facilitated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina as the only viable path toward normalization of relations.
