Kosovo is entering a critical phase in the process of electing a new president, as the deadline set by the Constitutional Court of Kosovo on April 28 is approaching without a clear political agreement.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti recently stated that there are no concrete developments to share publicly, apart from the fact that talks are ongoing with the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK).

Meanwhile, Glauk Konjufca, who has been proposed as a presidential candidate, has expressed willingness to withdraw if a candidate with broader political support—including from the opposition—is agreed upon.

On the other hand, MP Lutfi Haziri confirmed that LDK is in consultations with Vetëvendosje, aiming to reach an agreement that would ensure institutional stability and avoid a political crisis.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has called on the prime minister to formalize his approach through an official letter. According to MP Vlora Çitaku, such a request has not yet been submitted.

If a president is not elected by the deadline, the country risks heading to new elections within 45 days. So far, the lack of consensus and the opposition’s boycott of parliamentary sessions have prevented securing the necessary quorum for voting.
