Kosovo’s Food and Veterinary Agency (FVA) has rejected the import of 27 tonnes of corn from Serbia after laboratory tests detected aflatoxin levels above the legally permitted limit.
The shipment contained 33 micrograms of aflatoxin per kilogram, exceeding the permitted maximum of 20 micrograms. The result was also confirmed by a second analysis conducted by a reference laboratory in Austria.
The FVA ordered the entire shipment returned to its country of origin and confirmed that intensified import inspections will continue to protect public health and ensure food safety standards are met.
Food safety comes first. No shipment should enter Kosovo’s market if it fails to meet the required safety standards.
