Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has called on the European Union to grant Kosovo candidate-country status and open accession negotiations, speaking to the media at the Berlin Process Summit in Montenegro.

Kurti stressed that Kosovo has demonstrated democratic functioning, institutional stability and economic growth, while maintaining a strong commitment to European integration.

“We must keep European integration high on the agenda. Kosovo is an electoral, liberal and egalitarian democracy. We have democratic functionality, institutional stability, economic growth and undivided attention to this process,” Kurti said.

He emphasized that the time has come for Kosovo to take the next step towards EU membership.

“Now is the time for our country to obtain candidate-country status and open negotiations for EU accession. Therefore, today and every day, I will call on all EU leaders to request an opinion from the European Commission on this matter,” he stated.

Kurti’s remarks underline Kosovo’s push to advance its European integration process and secure a clearer path towards EU membership.
