Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti held his first meeting with European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos in Sveti Stefan, Montenegro, on the sidelines of the Berlin Process Summit.

The meeting focused on accelerating European reforms, advancing Kosovo’s EU integration and securing European Commission support for candidate country status and the opening of accession negotiations.

Kurti said that, with fully functional institutions, Kosovo would accelerate reforms. He highlighted the recent adoption of the final law required for integration into the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), which is expected to save citizens, businesses and the diaspora approximately €58 million annually.

He also announced that negotiations on joining the EU’s “Roam Like at Home” roaming area would begin soon, potentially reducing additional roaming charges for Kosovo citizens travelling within participating countries.

Kurti stressed that Kosovo’s democratic progress, commitment to shared European values and alignment with the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy must translate into concrete progress toward membership.

He called for proactive support from the European Commission for Kosovo to obtain candidate status and open accession negotiations.

Kurti also emphasised that Kosovo has ratified all agreements reached within the Berlin Process, including the agreement on mutual recognition of diplomas, and called on all parties to implement them, including Serbia.

Kosovo says it is delivering on reforms and regional commitments. The next question is whether the EU will turn its stated enlargement policy into concrete steps for Kosovo.
