“Black political clouds have covered Serbia” – This is what President Aleksandar Vucic says, hinting that there is no “umbrella” to protect himself.
In an interview for public television, he admits to his people the defeats in the two major diplomatic battles of Serbia, the one for obstructing Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe and for stopping the adoption of the resolution on the genocide in Sebrenica.
Vucic once again admitted that Kosovo has the necessary votes, but is still trying to put pressure on America to change something by May 17.
“But even a day after this, we will not be sad. We will not destroy and tarnish our image. The next day we will wear our Serbian tricolors, we will hang them in our houses, we will walk proudly through the streets, not only of our country, but of all the cities of the world”, he said.
He claimed that Serbs have suffered terribly in the two world wars and during the conflicts of the 90s, forgetting the internationally recognized fact that war crimes and genocide were committed by the Serbian army and state.
This is exactly where Vučić’s fear seems to originate, as he hinted in the interview that he is afraid of a genocide lawsuit from Kosovo. The Serbian president accepted the defeat in the United Nations Security Council meeting against his counterpart, Vjosa Osmani.
Apologizing to Slovenia for the insults in the session, Vucic says that he has repeated the video of the confrontation with Osmani hundreds of times.
“When such traps are set for you, you only think to respond quickly and defend Serbia quickly”, he said, referring to his nervousness after he was presented with the 4 heroines of Kosovo, who survived the torture of the Serbian forces in the last war.
