Kosovo is not ready for membership in the Council of Europe, and the vote to invite Kosovo for membership is a “shame” for the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, announced the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reports Sputnik.
“Voting in support of Kosovo is a shame for PSSE, which has confirmed its commitment to the depreciation of international legal norms and the destruction of the foundations of interstate relations in Europe,” said the spokeswoman of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova in a comment published on the website of the Ministry.
“At the same time, there was no unanimity among the deputies. Opinions are also divided in the delegations of those countries that once recognized the “independence” of Kosovo. This shows that there are still strong forces on the continent capable of facing the reckless, supporters of the ‘Kosovo project’ and their unprincipled politics”, the comment concludes.
PSSE previously approved the recommendation to invite Kosovo to membership in the Council of Europe.
The vote took place at the plenary meeting in Strasbourg, the approval was approved with 131 votes in favor, 29 against and 11 abstentions.
The final decision on membership remains with the PSSE Committee of Ministers.
