Arbërie Nagavci, head of the parliamentary group of the Vetëvendosje Movement, said on RTK Prime that electing Kosovo’s president is the “priority above all priorities.” According to her, no other issue can move forward until the presidential election is resolved, including state lobbying efforts to challenge the convictions handed down against the four former KLA leaders.

Responding to calls for parliament to vote on the draft law concerning the Specialist Chambers and avoid participating in the presidential election process, Nagavci said she expects every political actor to take responsibility and fulfill their duties in the Kosovo Assembly.

“By participating in the election of the president, we not only avoid another round of elections and save the state budget, but also enable us to address important issues, above all the preparation and participation of all institutions in a state strategy to challenge this unjust decision before the Appeals Court, through diplomacy, as well as to continue extremely important projects,” she told RTK.

Regarding former presidential candidate Bekim Sejdiu, who withdrew his candidacy, Nagavci said he remains an important and worthy figure for the position.

“I believe that if there is a willingness among MPs, just as he was ready at the time to take on this responsibility, he would reconsider,” she said.
